What is the Board of Trustees & what are they responsible for? The Washoe County School District Board of Trustees are publicly elected decision-makers for the school district. They are responsible for providing oversight to the Superintendent and establishing District-wide policy. Trustees are accountable to work with their communities to improve student achievement.

How often does the Board of Trustees meet? Trustees meet twice per month (second and fourth Tuesdays) at 2 pm both virtually and at the Central Administration Building Board Room, 425 E. 9th St., Reno, NV 89512.

Can community members engage at Trustee meetings? Decision-making bodies benefit greatly from hearing public input and multiple perspectives. Currently, members of the public can submit comments on agenda and non-agenda items through email or voice recording. Public comment can be provided in person or via email. Email comments should be submitted to publiccomments@washoeschools.net.

Trustees Approved the Bid Transfer from Continental Flooring Company to Silegacy Floor Finishing, Inc.
Trustees approved the disposition of protest by Continental Flooring Company to the recommendation of award for request for bid #26-65-B-01-BC, replacement of asbestos flooring at George L. Dilworth Middle School, to Silegacy floor finishing, INC.
Highlights of the presentation included:
- Clarity regarding the exact language of NRS 338.141 that was violated "each bid… must include…" "the number of the license issued to the first tier subcontractor".
- The board received a letter of formal protest from Continental Flooring Company regarding the replacement.
- The president of Continental Flooring Company and representatives presented the appeal.

Trustees received a Presentation and Approved the Washoe County School District School Property Reuse and Disposition Framework to be Utilized for all School Repurposing Decisions to be Initiated following Action by the Board of Trustees to Close a School Site, In Accordance with Nevada Revised Statutes Chapters 277 and 393 and Washoe County School District Administrative Regulation 7087
Trustees received a presentation and approved the Washoe County School District School Property Reuse and Disposition Framework to be utilized for all school repurposing decisions to be initiated following action by the Board of Trustees to close a school site, in accordance with Nevada Revised Statutes Chapter 277 and 393 and Washoe County School District Administrative Regulation 7087.
Highlights of the presentation include:
- The repurposing framework is data-informed and compliant with NRS and Board Policy.
- Board policy 7086 outlined five categories 1) Potential for academic programs serving students 2) potential for non-academic District departments or central services 3) Uses that serve youth through another governmental entity or nonprofit 4. Uses that serve adults, including WCSD staff, through another governmental entity or nonprofit 5) Open-market sale or lease through a public process.
- Currently on phase two of three phases with the current focus on repurposing evaluation and decision.

Trustees received a presentation of the proposed interview process, including question development, evaluation framework, and Board of Trustees Considerations for the Board's Interview of Deputy Superintendent Tiffany McMaster and Consideration of Possible Appointment as Superintendent at the May 12, 2026 board meeting.
Highlights of the presentation included:
- Trustees reviewed the appropriate question format to submit inquiries in advance of the May 12th interview.
- During the May 12th interview, the themes and the background of the requester (e.g., "Parent of Washoe County School District Child", "Teacher in the Washoe County School District") of who requested what item will be provided.
- The meeting time of the May 12, 2026 board meeting may be announced to begin earlier than usual to accommodate the length of the interview process. This update will be communicated as information is available.

Trustees Received a Presentation on the Middle School and High School International Baccalaureate Programs in the Washoe County School District
Trustees received a presentation on the middle school and high school International Baccalaureate programs in the Washoe County School District.
Highlights of the presentation included:
- Demonstrated students receiving an IB Diploma demonstrate high (>60%) acceptance rates at prestigious universities.
- WCSD currently hosts two IB programs that are currently at Wooster HS and Vaughn MS.
- Staff members from Vaughn and Wooster spoke on the innovative and research-based Tier I instruction occurring at their campuses.

Trustees Approved the Award of Request for Proposal (RFP) #60-P-10-26-MS, World Language Instructional Materials Adoption, to Carnegie Learning (Chinese), Lingco Language Labs Inc. (French, German and Spanish), Vista Higher Learning (Middle School Spanish), and Wayside Publishing (AP Spanish Literature) for a Term of 7 Years
Trustees approved the award of Request For Proposal (RFP) #60-P-10-26-MS, world language instructional materials adoption, to Carnegie Learning (Chinese), Lingco Language Labs Inc. (French, German and Spanish), Vista Higher Learning (Middle School Spanish), and Wayside Publishing (AP Spanish Literature) for a term of 7 years beginning July 1, 2026 and ending June 30, 2033 for the approximate amount of $2,925,000.
Highlights of the presentation included:
- The materials of all language programs were shared with public stakeholders and at public meetings over the past year.
- High school students overwhelmingly chose Lingco for French, German, and Spanish and shared positive testimonials.
- The funding for these materials would be through the general fund.

Highlights of the presentation included:
- Encompass academy fulfilled all conditions (diagnostic review, academic consultant, and stakeholder communication) before the January 30, 2026 deadline.
- The committee review found the school to be "restart-ready" and demonstrates clear capacity to implement and sustain turnaround.
- Clear strengths that were noted were data-driven and strong academic systems, governance and financial health.

- Trustee Westlake attended a ribbon-cutting ceremony at Getto Central Transportation Yard.
- Trustee Nicolet participated as a judge in the Marce Herz Middle School passion project showcase.
Superintendent's Report
Report highlights included:
- WCSD has been in a comprehensive audit with the Legislative Counsel Bureau for the past three years and recently went forward with the first audit recently being shared with the legislative subcommittee and passed.
Public Comment
Public comment highlights included:
- Concern regarding students being excluded from recess time based on academic performance and the use of loss of recess time as a punitive measure.
