What is the Board of Trustees & what are they responsible for? The Washoe County School District Board of Trustees are publicly elected decision-makers for the school district. They are responsible for providing oversight to the Superintendent and establishing District-wide policy. Trustees are accountable to work with their communities to improve student achievement.

How often does the Board of Trustees meet? Trustees meet twice per month (second and fourth Tuesdays) at 2 pm both virtually and at the Central Administration Building Board Room, 425 E. 9th St., Reno, NV 89512.

Can community members engage at Trustee meetings? Decision-making bodies benefit greatly from hearing public input and multiple perspectives. Currently, members of the public can submit comments on agenda and non-agenda items through email or voice recording. Public comment can be provided in person or via email. Email comments should be submitted to publiccomments@washoeschools.net.

Trustees Approved the Consent Agenda
Items 3.01, 3.02, and 3.03 were removed from the consent agenda
Consent agenda highlights include:
- Approval of the award of bid (#26-105-B-06-BC) for the replacement of the play structure at Marvin Moss Elementary School.
- Approval of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Washoe County School District and the School Psychologists' Association of Washoe (SPAW)
- Several facilities and RFP items

Trustees Provided a Formal Position of Opposition Regarding the UNR Doral Academy of Northern Nevada's (DANN) Request for Amendment of its Charter Contract
Doral Academy of Northern Nevada is requesting an amendment of its charter contract with its authorizer, the Nevada State Public Charter School Authority, which would enable the school to build a K-12 campus in Reno to serve 1,596 students once fully enrolled.
Per NRS 388A.249 (2)(d), the State Public Charter School Authority solicited non-binding input from the Washoe County School District on the proposed amendment, as the public charter school would be located in Washoe County.
Trustees received a presentation from WCSD staff with an overview of the request and rationale for the board to take a formal position of opposition to Doral Academy of Northern Nevada's expansion request.
Trustees voted to formally oppose Doral Academy of Northern Nevada's request to the SPCSA, with some rationale being a) projected enrollment totals b) a desire for more emphasis on career-connected learning be articulated in the amendment documentation, c) the timeline and d) the school's education management organization.
If approved, the school is projected to open August 2028.
