Trustees Held a Joint Meeting with the Audit Advisory Committee and Approved the Independent Auditor’s Reports on Internal Control, Compliance, and Other Matters (6-0 )

Trustees held a joint meeting with the Audit Advisory Committee, and approved the independent auditor’s reports on internal control, compliance, and other matters based on an audit of statements performed in accordance with government auditing standards on the schedule of expenditures of federal awards as required by uniform guidance.

• This year, the audit focused on the child nutrition cluster, special education, magnet schools assistance, 21st-century community learning centers, and the English language acquisition state grants.
• One significant deficiency (the least severe type of error) was found: the number of students reported to be enrolled in Brian and Teri Cram Middle School was lower than the actual number enrolled.
• To prevent this error from happening again in the future, a two-step financial control was implemented, in which enrollment data is checked by a separate individual after it is entered.

Trustees heard an update on the Teachers Health Trust. Highlights of the presentation included:

• The 2024-25 audit of the Teachers Health Trust issued an unqualified opinion, meaning there were no material issues or findings.
• Teacher’s Health Trust’s 2024-25 Quick Ratio is 1.3, which is deemed healthy and an improvement over previous years.
• Health insurance tiers based on number of dependents (e.g., employee + 1, employee + 2-4) have been replaced with tiers based on dependent types (e.g., employee + spouse, employee + family).
• Successes over the past year include no premium increase for full-time licensed employees, a significant increase in the number of in-network locations, and enhanced coverage for diabetic care.
• Next steps include continuing to expand the network, enhancing support for plan members, and decreasing costs where possible.
