Clark County School District Board of Trustees

What is the Board of Trustees & what are they responsible for? The CCSD Trustees are decision-makers for the school district. Seven members are elected based on district; four are appointed representatives from the four largest municipalities in Clark County (Clark County, City of Las Vegas, City of Henderson, and City of North Las Vegas). They are responsible for providing oversight to the Superintendent and establishing District-wide policy. Trustees are accountable to work with their communities to improve student achievement.

How often does the Board of Trustees meet? Trustees meet twice per month (second and fourth Thursdays) at 5 pm both virtually and at the Edward A. Greer Education Center Board Room (2832 E Flamingo Rd, Las Vegas, NV 89121).

Can community members engage at Trustee meetings? Decision-making bodies benefit greatly from hearing public input and multiple perspectives. Currently, members of the public can submit comments on agenda and non-agenda items through email or voice recording. Public comment can be provided in person, via email, or via voice recording. Email comments should be submitted to Boardmtgcomments@nv.ccsd.net. To submit a voice recording on items listed on the meeting agenda, call 702-799-1166. Voice recorded public comment is limited to 1 minute 30 seconds.

Trustees Approved a Notice of Intent to Adopt, Repeal, or Amend CCSD Regulation 2500 – Service Animals (7-0)

Trustees approved a Notice of Intent (NOI) regarding Regulation 2500 – Service Animals. The NOI references:

  • Dogs or miniature horses who are trained to work or perform tasks for persons with disabilities and require a doctor or professional’s referral.
  • Guidelines and definitions in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
  • Specific guidelines are given to determine if the animal is an approved service animal (limited inquiry) and when it may be appropriate or necessary to remove the animal for the safety of the public.

A copy of the proposal is available for inspection by the public during normal business hours in the Office of the Superintendent of Schools of the Clark County School District which is located at 5100 West Sahara Avenue, Las Vegas, Nevada, and also on the Clark County School District website at https://www.ccsd.net/district/policies-regulations/. A public hearing on this issue will be held Thursday, May 16, 2024, at 5:00 pm.

Trustees Approved a Notice of Intent to Adopt, Repeal, or Amend CCSD Regulation 2500.1 – Emotional Support Animals (7-0)

Trustees approved a Notice of Intent (NOI) regarding Regulation 2500.1 – Emotional Support Animals. The NOI outlines:

  • Emotional support animals are not service animals. They provide comfort or support for individuals with disabilities, and do not have special training.
  • Student requests for these animals will be considered in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
  • A management plan is needed to discuss animal feeding and elimination needs as well as costs associated.
  • Specific guidelines are given to determine if the animal is an approved emotional support and when it may be appropriate or necessary to remove the animal for the safety of the public.

Trustees Approved a Notice of Intent to Adopt, Repeal, or Amend CCSD Regulation 2500.2 – Schoolwide Therapy Dogs (7-0)

Trustees approved a Notice of Intent (NOI) regarding Regulation 2500.2 – Schoolwide Therapy Dogs. The NOI oulines:

  • Only one schoolwide therapy dog may be used at any given time in one school, and costs shall be paid by the handler. Handlers may only supervise one dog at a time and is responsible for the therapy dog at all times, and is not permitted in areas where there are sinks or food prepared or stored.
  • Applications for these animals must be submitted by the Principal and approved by the Superintendent.
  • Handler must prove certification and liability insurance as well as a management plan with needs of dog and benefit to school.
  • Specific guidelines are given to determine if the animal is an approved school wide therapy animal, and when it may be appropriate or necessary to remove the animal for the safety of the public.

Trustees Approved a Notice of Intent to Adopt, Repeal, or Amend CCSD Regulation 7310 – Safety and Loss Control (7-0)

Trustees approved a Notice of Intent (NOI) regarding Regulation 7310 Safety and Loss Control. The NOI outlines:

  • Changes to the name of the “District Safety Advisory Team” and defines risk management personnel, elimination of the safety advisory committee, and clarifying new processes, allowing for the actions of site coordination team to contribute to safety as needed.

Trustees approved a Notice of Intent (NOI) regarding Regulation 2130, District Organization. The NOI includes:

  • Adding the ability for the school SOT to act as the site safety coordination team.
