Trustees Heard a Presentation on The Washoe County School District (WCSD) (FY) Budget Process and Status, Including a Review of the Preliminary General Fund Budget Deficit and Approved Staff Recommendations

  • Long-term pressures, such as lower enrollment
  • Presentation of long-term solutions, such as the Facilities Modernization Plan
  • Initial budget reduction ideas resulted in a $5.7 million reduction, leaving the budget deficit at $12.7 million.
  • Staff will begin presenting these options in October to finalize personnel recommendations.

Trustees Approved and Adopted the Negotiated Agreement between the WCSD and the Washoe County School Police Officer's Association for a term of agreement form 2025-27

Highlights of the agreement included:

  • Two-year agreement (2025-2027) with updated contingent on 2% Cost of Living Increase in FY 27, subject to guardrails.
  • Updated pass-through language on for SB 231 funding.
  • Additional benefits included, new rules for pre-planned sick leave, language updates on workplace injuries, updated safety equipment list to better reflect current need, and more.

Trustees received a Presentation of a Proclamation Honoring Hispanic Heritage Month in the Washoe County School District

  • Sparks Middle School recognized for academic achievement and attendance with over 70% students identifying as Hispanic.
  • Hispanic students joined the presentation and shared positive anecdotes regarding their experiences at Sparks middle school.
  • Shared experiences related to the Hispanic community in education and how important cultural appreciation is to the education experience.

Trustees received a Presentation on High School Advanced Coursework, including Dual Credit, Advanced Placement (AP), International Baccalaureate (IB), and Career and Technical Education (CTE)

  • Offering more concurrent enrollment options, subsidizing tuition and instructional materials for concurrent enrollment courses, discounted tuition rate for dual-credit courses outside of concurrent enrollment, and removal of Advanced Placement Testing fees for students.
  • Provided an overview of historical dual enrollment in the WCSD, including a partnership between CCSD and UNR.
  • Provided an overview of the vision for 2025-26 and beyond which includes college-level Math, English, and Social Studies classes for High School students.

Trustees Received a Presentation on Milestone and Momentum made on Strategic Plan Goal 4, Academic Achievement and Growth

 

Ang mga highlight ng pagtatanghal ay kinabibilangan ng:

 

  • Defining "Prive Capacity", which refers to speech as a private citizen versus speech not part of the performance of an official duty.
  • Adoption of policies aligned with the U.S. & Nevada Constitution rather than the Family Educational Rights to Privacy Act (FERPA).
  • Amendments to clarify protected and unprotected speech, and to move the reporting process to Administrative Regulations.

Trustees Approved the Change of Use for Kate Smith Elementary School in Accordance with Administrative Regulation 7087 and Nevada Revised Statutes (NRS) Chapter 393 Effective Beginning the 2027-28 School Year

Trustees Approved the Deletion of Board Policy 4700, Employee Complaint Process and Initiation of the 13-day Public Review and Comment Period

Items within the board policy included:

  • Scope of employee complaints including violation of law to the WCSD or WCSD board policy.
  • Hierarchy process for complaints submitted by employees.
  • Prohibition of unlawful retaliation against an individual.
