What is the Board of Trustees & what are they responsible for? The Washoe County School District Board of Trustees are publicly elected decision-makers for the school district. They are responsible for providing oversight to the Superintendent and establishing District-wide policy. Trustees are accountable to work with their communities to improve student achievement.

How often does the Board of Trustees meet? Trustees meet twice per month (second and fourth Tuesdays) at 2 pm both virtually and at the Central Administration Building Board Room, 425 E. 9th St., Reno, NV 89512.

Can community members engage at Trustee meetings? Decision-making bodies benefit greatly from hearing public input and multiple perspectives. Currently, members of the public can submit comments on agenda and non-agenda items through email or voice recording. Public comment can be provided in person or via email. Email comments should be submitted to publiccomments@washoeschools.net.

Consent agenda highlights include:
- Approval of the appointment of Alex Woodley, as a member of the Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association (NIAA)
- Several bid and award agreements (CMWorks, Gardenshop Nursery, Virginia Palmer Modernization Project)
- Approval for the payment of to the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) for the 2025-26 school year for tuition of concurrent enrolled WCSD students

Trustees approved the appointment of trustee Christine Hull as the legislative representative pursuant to board policy 9055(5)(g) who was nominated alongside the following trustees: Adam Mayberry, Diane Nicolet, James (JJ) Phoenix, Colleen Westlake, and Alex Woodley.
Trustees Approved the Draft Board Resolution 26-001, A resolution Concerning the Financing of School Improvements
Trustees approved the draft board resolution 26-001, a resolution concerning the financing of school improvements; directing the Chief Financial Officer to notify the oversight panel for school facilities an debt management commission of the district's proposal to issue general obligation bonds, in one series or more, in an aggregate principal amount not to exceed $500,000,000; providing certain details in connection therewith; and providing the effective date.

Trustees approved the draft board resolution 26-002, a resolution concerning the financing of school improvements; directing the Chief Financial Officer to notify the Washoe County Debt Management Commission of the district's proposal to issue general obligation bonds additionally secured by pledged revenues, in one series or more, in an aggregate principal amount not to exceed $175 million; providing the effective date.

Trustees Received a Presentation regarding Progress of Internships and Work-Based Learning in the Washoe County School District and Plans for Continued Expansion and Proclamation Honoring Career and Technical Education (CTE) Month
Trustees received a presentation regarding progress of internships and work-based learning in the Washoe County School District and plans for continued expansion and proclamation honoring Career and Technical Education (CTE) month in the Washoe County School District.
Highlights of the presentation included:
- The first full-time internship coordinator (Crystal Edwards) was positioned in the CTE department during the summer of 2024.
- Nevada Department of Education works closely to ensure internships administered/supported by the CTE department are 60 hours in length and bear academic credit.
- The long-term goal is to expand internship promotion opportunities to 100% of students in grades 10-12.

Trustees Received a Presentation regarding Community Partnerships to Include the Community Health Alliance, The Food Bank, and Reno Rotary
Trustees received a presentation regarding community partnerships to include the Community Health Alliance, The Food Bank, and Reno Rotary and how they support student academic achievement.
Highlights of the presentation included:
- Highlight of partnerships between the Food Bank of Northern Nevada, Community Health Alliance, Care Solace, and the City of Reno, Rotary Club of Reno.
- Reno Rotary donated nearly $10,000 to our counseling department in the late summer to help prevent substance use efforts.
- Discussed the importance of Community-School Interdependence: Employers and Economic Development, Tax Dollars, and Quality Instruction result in better results for all.

Student Representative's Report
Report highlights included:
- Concern regarding facilities (i.e., gates on campus locations)
- Issues with the new student identification/number system that recently went into effect.

Report highlights included:
- Attended the WCSD academy for breakout sessions and received staff input.
- Plans to visit more specialty schools this year.
- Trustee Smith and Trustee Hull attended the Commission on Recruitment & Retention.
Superintendent's Report
Report highlights included:
- Recognizing commitment and service from the board during Board Awareness Month in January.
- Played celebratory "Thank You" video showcasing the work of WCSD.
