Trustees Approved a Notice of Intent for CCSD Regulation 5129 (7-0)

Trustees discussed and approved amendments to CCSD Regulation 5129, relating to high school graduation ceremonies. Changes included:

• More detailed information about permissible graduation regalia, decorations, and adornments on caps and gowns.
• Language added defining the terms “adornment”, “cultural”, “harassment”, and “discrimination” and referring to the definition of “bullying” found in NRS 388.122.
• More detailed information about the pre-approval process for graduation regalia, decorations, and adornments on caps and gowns.

Trustees Received a Presentation on the Superintendent’s Mid-Year Performance Report

Trustees heard a presentation on Superintendent Jhone Ebert’s mid-year performance report. Highlights of the presentation included:

• This school year has five key targets:
  • Develop professional learning standards related to supervision and support of Pre-K programs.
  • Develop and implement rigorous literacy tutoring.
  • Develop district-wide mathematics standards.
  • Develop program standards related to Professional Learning Communities, Career and Technical Education, and Advanced Placement.
  • Complete a revised District Strategic Plan using feedback from the community.
• Notable progress has been made on each target, leading to successes including academic growth, increased staffing stability, and increased parent/guardian and community engagement.
• Work continues on the District Strategic Plan, and presentation of the final plan will be given in May.

Trustees Approved the FY2027 Tentative Budget (7-0 )

Trustees discussed and approved the Fiscal Year 2027 Tentative Budget.

Presentation and budget highlights included:

• Fiscal year 2027 runs from July 1st, 2026 to June 30th, 2027.
• Development of the 2027 budget continues through December 31st, 2026 as enrollment numbers for the 2026-27 school year and budget information from fiscal year 2026 are finalized.
• State funding based on enrollment numbers comprises the majority of CCSD funding, at a predicted $3.772 billion for the year.
• Salaries and benefits are the largest expenditures, at a combined 65% of the tentative budget.
• 5% of the tentative budget is unassigned funds, which is considered low generally but standard for a large school district.
