What is the Board of Trustees & what are they responsible for? The Washoe County School District Board of Trustees are publicly elected decision-makers for the school district. They are responsible for providing oversight to the Superintendent and establishing District-wide policy. Trustees are accountable to work with their communities to improve student achievement.

How often does the Board of Trustees meet? Trustees meet twice per month (second and fourth Tuesdays) at 2 pm both virtually and at the Central Administration Building Board Room, 425 E. 9th St., Reno, NV 89512.

Can community members engage at Trustee meetings? Decision-making bodies benefit greatly from hearing public input and multiple perspectives. Currently, members of the public can submit comments on agenda and non-agenda items through email or voice recording. Public comment can be provided in person or via email. Email comments should be submitted to publiccomments@washoeschools.net.

Trustees Approved the Negotiated Agreement Between WCSD and the Washoe School Principals' Association
Trustees approved the new negotiated agreement between the District and Washoe School Principals' Association for a term from 2025-2027.

- A breakdown of the negotiation team involved (103 Principals, 83 Assistant Principals, 92 Deans, and 33 Central Office Administrators).

Trustees Approved Activating the School Naming Committee
Trustees voted to activate the School Naming Committee in anticipation of the possible changes to school names due to the consolidation and/or repurposing and/or closure of schools related to the approved Facilities Modernization Plan.
Highlights of the presentation included:
- Reviewed a summary of the district's Facilities Modernization Plan (FMP), meant to mitigate projected declining enrollment in core areas of the county.
- A number of project from the FMP that may result in the closing, repurposing, and consolidation of schools.
- Presented various scenarios that demonstrate examples of closing, repurposing and consolidation.

Trustees Approved the Guaranteed Maximum Price from Core West, Inc. as the Construction Manager at Risk for the Bernice Mathews Elementary School Modernization Project
Trustees approved the Guaranteed Maximum Price from Core West, Inc. as the Construction Manager at Risk (CMAR) for the Bernice Mathews Elementary School modernization project, in the amount of $14,045,136. Trustees approved a contingency in the amount of $1,245,000, for a total of $15,290,136. Finally, Trustees approved WCSD's Owner-CMAR Construction Agreement.

Trustees Approved the 2025/2026 "A" Major Projects Program for Design Phase Funding for Several Projects
Trustees approved the 2025/2026 "A" Major Projects Program for design phase funding for Sparks High School modernization project, North Valleys High School modernization project, and funding for the Information Technology device refresh program, for a total amount of $22,700,000, as recommended by the Capital Funding Protection Committee.

Trustees Approved Proposed Revisions to Strategic Plan Action Steps for the 2025-26 School Year, and Approved the One-Year Extension of the Strategic Plan
Trustees heard a presentation on proposed revisions to the Strategic Plan action steps for the 2025-26 school year. Highlights of the presentation included:
- Every strategy presented was reviewed by the Academic Leadership Team using the 4-step revision criteria.
- The revised Strategic Action Plan Steps are divided into five goals (Strong Start for Every Child, Student Voice and Advocacy, Safety and Belonging, Academic Growth and Achievement, and Empowering All Learners for Their Future) with updated subgoals.
- With the majority of strategies in place, the next two years will prioritize refinement and implementation of the updated strategies.
Following the discussion, Trustees voted to approve the proposed revisions and a one-year extension of the Strategic Plan.

Trustees provided preliminary approval to adopt Board Policy 0200, relating to the District's Strategic Plan. This approval initiates the 13-day public review and comment period.
Highlights of the policy included:
- Review of the District's Aspirations for every learner (Strong Start for Every Child, Student Voice and Advocacy, Safety and Belonging, Academic Growth and Achievement, and Empowering All Learners for Their Future).
- Review of the four pillars (Consistent Standards-Aligned Curriculum and Instruction, Strong Partnerships with Families and the Community, Commitment to Elevating Educators, Culture of Excellence and Accountability).

Student Representative's Report
Report highlights included:
- Support for Dual-Enrollment classes is being offered, and students are motivated to graduate with an Associate's degree.
- Mentioned difficulties for high schoolers with navigating transcripts when attending various institutions.

- Trustee Nicolett handed off the WCSD Data book to their researcher, Laura Davidson.
- Trustee Westlake attended the Children's Cabinet Art of Childhood Fundraising Gala.
- Several Trustees participated in the "Walking Bus" program at Trainer Middle School.

- Several school and classroom visits.
- Preliminary work in a partnership with the Northern Nevada Literacy Foundation.

- Carpenters Union members shared success from CTE schools and associated projects.
