Washoe County School District Board of Trustees

What is the Board of Trustees & what are they responsible for? The Washoe County School District Board of Trustees are publicly elected decision-makers for the school district. They are responsible for providing oversight to the Superintendent and establishing District-wide policy. Trustees are accountable to work with their communities to improve student achievement.

How often does the Board of Trustees meet? Trustees meet twice per month (second and fourth Tuesdays) at 2 pm both virtually and at the Central Administration Building Board Room, 425 E. 9th St., Reno, NV 89512.

Can community members engage at Trustee meetings? Decision-making bodies benefit greatly from hearing public input and multiple perspectives. Currently, members of the public can submit comments on agenda and non-agenda items through email or voice recording. Public comment can be provided in person or via email. Email comments should be submitted to publiccomments@washoeschools.net.

Trustees Approved the Collective Bargaining Agreement Between the Washoe County School District and the Washoe Education Association (WEA)

 

Trustees approved and adopted the negotiated collective bargaining agreement between the Washoe County School District and the Washoe Education Association (WEA) for a term of agreement from 2025-2027.

 

Highlights of the presentation included:

 

  • Overview of compensation highlights (i.e. cost of living, vacation days, general fund surplus, competitive salary options).
  • Agreeance that both parties' benefits and the mutual factors surrounding the agreement.
  • Provided additional updates and modernized leave plans.

Trustees Received a Presentation on the Proclamation Honoring Inclusive Schools Week

 

Trustees received a presentation from several students in the Washoe County School District on Inclusive Schools Week.

Highlights of the presentation included:

  • Students shared various stories and experiences regarding inclusivity in schools.
  • Students discussed a successful school event that concluded with heartfelt stories of inclusivity.

Trustees Received a Presentation on the Progress Made Regarding Strategic Plan Goal 1, Strong Start for Every Child

 

Trustees received a presentation to provide the board of trustees an overview of progress made on strategic plan goal 1, a strong start for every child.

Highlights of the presentation included:

 

  • Review of the goals and pillars included in the strategic plan
  • iReady and Smarter Balance Assessments used for monitoring progress on strategic plan goal 1
  • New Strong Start Transition plan beginning for the 2026-27 school year, which will now have pre-kindergarten and kindergarten beginning the same day as all other grades.

Trustees received a presentation and announcement of the 15th annual holiday card contest winners across WCSD for the 2025 school year.

Trustees Approved the Adoption of Washoe County School District Board Resolution 25-041, a Resolution Authorizing the Issuance of up to 1,000,000,000 in General Obligation (Limited Tax) School Improvement Bonds

 

Trustees approved the action to adopt Washoe County School District board resolution 25-041, a resolution authorizing the issuance of up to $100,000,000 in general obligation (limited tax) school improvement bonds (additionally secured by pledged revenues), series 2026B, and authorizing officers of the district to take other actions necessary to complete the issuance and related matters.

Trustees Approved the Agreement for Enterprise Resource Planning Software Procurement and Implementation Services, with CherryRoad Technologies INC.

 

Trustees approved an agreement for Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software procurement and implementation services with CherryRoad Technologies Inc., beginning January 1, 2026, for a term of approximately two years, in the total estimated amount of $9,954,960, and approval of the affiliated agreements with oracle for a total possible term of 9 years, including optional renewals, in the total estimated amount of $11,4333,728.25.

 

Trustees discussed:

  • Failures of the prior contractor and addressing the way to overcome the issues around project management of the ERP systems.
  • Benefits and new timeline that would be facilitated with CherryRoad.
  • A delay in roll out will be needed to provide critical training on switching over to the new ERP system.

Trustees Approved the Recommendation of the Zoning Advisory Committee to Modify the Enrollment Boundaries of the Following Schools (Roger Corbett Elementary School, Smithridge Elementary School, Edwin S. Dodson Elementary School, Hidden Valley Elementary School, Donner Springs Elementary School, Kendyl Depoali Middle School, E. Otis Vaughn Middle School, Earl Wooster High School, and Damonte Ranch High School)  as a Result of the Current Edward L. Pine Middle School Campus, Effective Beginning the 2028-29 School Year

Trustees approved the recommendation of the Zoning Advisory Committee to modify the enrollment boundaries of the following schools  as a result of the current Edward L. Pine Middle School campus, effective beginning the 2028-29 school year: Roger Corbett Elementary School, Smithridge Elementary School, Edwin S. Dodson Elementary School, Hidden Valley Elementary School, Donner Springs Elementary School, Kendyl Depoali Middle School, E. Otis Vaughn Middle School, Earl Wooster High School, and Damonte Ranch High School.

 

Highlights of the presentation included:

  • Overview of the FMP timeline for the included facilities.
  • Meetings to discuss the four zoning options were presented in August, September, October and November of 2025.
  • Summaries of the options provided as well as the final staff recommendation for the 2028-2029 school year.
