Warriors of Light Family (WOLF)

About Warriors of Light Family:

At Warriors of Light Family we develop a family of champions by empowering high school youth through the mind, body, heart, and spirit to transcend the inequities impacting their lives. We do this by training and mentoring post secondary students to facilitate the programming of the high school youth through boxing and social emotional activities. We strive to support our youth in finding a sense of belonging, mentorship, self confidence, and their version of success.

About the Founder:

Joseph Orosco is the Founder and Executive Director of Warriors of Light Family Inc. He served in education for four years before transitioning to the medical field to work as an emergency medical technician to further support the community. Joseph completed his Undergrad at Trinity College with a Dual B.A. in Urban Studies and Engineering Science. He then went on to get his Master’s in Curriculum and Instruction at the University of Nevada Las Vegas. His career is dedicated to helping build communities and understanding the root issues that cause a community to decline. Joseph also served as a foster parent and has received several awards such as SIC Community Award, Coca-Cola Scholar, and NBA Latino Night Awardee.

More About Design to EdRupt

Opportunity 180’s Design to EdRupt fellowship looks to disrupt the current educational landscape by surfacing and supporting underrepresented PreK-12 future and current education leaders and helping to reimagine the future of learning. During the fellowship, individuals explore the idea of designing and launching a new learning environment, such as a school or program.

The fellowship exists in three stages: Explore, where fellows assess and explore their leadership readiness to design and launch a new school or program; Cultivate, where fellows pilot their ideas; and Prepare to Launch. Their programs and school concepts will ensure more kids have access to innovative, high quality learning environments, and ensuring every kid can graduate from high school college and career-ready, prepared to live the life they dream. Mike is one of our Cultivate Cohort I fellows. For more information, click here.
