Washoe County School District Board of Trustees

What is the Board of Trustees & what are they responsible for? The Washoe County School District Board of Trustees are publicly elected decision-makers for the school district. They are responsible for providing oversight to the Superintendent and establishing District-wide policy. Trustees are accountable to work with their communities to improve student achievement.

How often does the Board of Trustees meet? Trustees meet twice per month (second and fourth Tuesdays) at 2 pm both virtually and at the Central Administration Building Board Room, 425 E. 9th St., Reno, NV 89512.

Can community members engage at Trustee meetings? Decision-making bodies benefit greatly from hearing public input and multiple perspectives. Currently, members of the public can submit comments on agenda and non-agenda items through email or voice recording. Public comment can be provided in person or via email. Email comments should be submitted to publiccomments@washoeschools.net.

Trustees received a presentation of a Washoe County School District Proclamation honoring Veterans Day in the Washoe County School District.

Trustees Received a Presentation on the Native Culture and Education Program to Include Information Pertaining to Title VI, Native Youth Community Grant, and Native Education Parent Advisory Committee Strategic Goals, and a Presentation of a Proclamation Honoring Native American Heritage Month

 

Trustees received a presentation on native culture and education programs to include information pertaining to Title IV, Native Youth Community Project grant (NVCP), Native American Language grant (NAL), and Native Education Parent Advisory Committee strategic goals. Trustees also presented a proclamation honoring Native American Heritage Month in the Washoe County School District.

Highlights of the presentation included:

  • Objectives to include cultural and language engagement through the Native American Language Grant.
  • Reviewed the 5-year strategic plans with goals of culturally responsive instruction, revitalization of the Numu language, and becoming more culturally responsive.
  • Ongoing tribal consultation throughout the year through education meetings and collaboration with tribal departments.

Trustees Approved the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR), as Recommended by the Audit Committee

 

Trustees approved the annual comprehensive financial report (ACFR) for the fiscal year ended June 30., 2025 FY25), as recommended by the audit committee.

 

Highlights of the presentation included:

 

  • Presenters reviewed new accounting standards that impact the District's 2025 financial statements.
  • No reportable findings were identified for the 2024-2025 fiscal year.
  • There were no audit adjustments, and no findings with respect to financial statement audit or statutory findings in respect of Nevada Revised Statutes.

Report highlights included:

  • Advocating to increase dual-credit enrolment.
  • Considering decorating school gates to allow them to feel less intimidating.

Trustees Report

Report highlights included:

  • Trustees attended the Coral Academy Anniversary dinner.
  • Trustee provided shout-outs to staff who stepped in to assist with food service needs impacted by the government shutdown.

Superintendent's Report

Report highlights included:

  • Appreciation for the dedication of staff and community members supporting over 20 schools impacted by power outages due to recent weather conditions.

 

Public Comment

Report highlights included:

  • Community concern for the closure of the community greenhouse and the urge to consider restoration rather than repurposing.
  • Concern for accountability and behavior being used for enrollment limitations and admissions for career and technical academies.

 

 

The next Meeting of the Board of Trustees is scheduled for December 9, 2025, at 2:00 p.m.
