Trustees Received an Update from Hazzard, Young, Attea & Associates on the Superintendent Search

Trustees received an update on the superintendent search process from Hazzard, Young, Attea & Associates. Highlights included the presentation of the Leadership Profile Report, which outlines a set of desired characteristics for the Superintendent, and was formed using collected data from multiple sources, including board interviews, individual interviews, focus groups, meetings, and stakeholder surveys.

Focus groups were asked to respond to questions relating to values and strengths, issues the District currently faces and is expected to face in the next 3-5 years, and desired personal and professional characteristics. The survey asked about leadership profile attributes, priorities for the future, and open ended comments, and 13,749 people took the survey.

The top two priorities identified by the survey are recruiting, employing, and retaining effective personnel throughout CCSD and its schools, and fostering a unifying, positive, professional climate of mutual trust and respect among faculty, staff, and administration.

Additional consensus was reached on priorities around effectively planning and managing the long-term financial health of the District, providing transparent communication, establishing a culture of high expectations for all students and personnel, and demonstrating a deep understanding of educational research and emerging best practices.

From these results, HYA Associates developed several desired characteristics:

Focus groups will continue, and the Board can further review this draft and provide edits or revisions. The board will vote on the leadership profile on September 26.
