Junta Directiva del Distrito Escolar del Condado de Washoe

¿Qué es la Junta Directiva y de qué es responsable? La Junta Directiva del Distrito Escolar del Condado de Washoe es el órgano decisorio elegido públicamente para el distrito escolar. Son responsables de supervisar al Superintendente y de establecer la política del Distrito. Los administradores son responsables de trabajar con sus comunidades para mejorar el rendimiento de los estudiantes.

¿Con qué frecuencia se reúne el Consejo de Administración? Los administradores se reúnen dos veces al mes (segundo y cuarto martes) a las 14.00 horas, tanto virtualmente como en la sala de juntas del edificio de la Administración Central, 425 E.9th St., Reno, NV 89512.

Trustees approved amending Board Policy 9070, regarding administrative regulations and administrative procedures/manuals. These amendments include:

 

  • Discussion for replacement of the current 9070 board policy with new language in a future meeting

Trustees Provided Preliminary Approval to Amend Board Policy 9055(5)(G) Related to the Legislative Representative, and Initiated the 13-Day Public Review and Comment Period

 

Trustees provided preliminary approval to amend Board Policy 9055(5)(G), related to the Board's legislative representative. This approval initiates the 13-day public review and comment period. These amendments include:

 

  • Added language that allows the Legislative Representative to ask the Board President to add an item to the agenda for discussion or action on the legislation following the Meeting Protocols Board Policy
  • The previous language allowing for full Board discussion and potential general action has been removed

Trustees Received an Update on Strategic Plan Goal 2: Student Voice and Advocacy

Trustees received an update on Strategic Plan Goal 2, relating to student voice and advocacy. Highlights of the presentation include:

  • Shared new Results from a Climate survey, which demonstrated data showing students feel strongly about topics pertaining to student voice
  • Discussion on the plethora of hobbies and extra/co-curricular activities

Trustees Provided Preliminary Approval to Proposed Revisions to Board Policy 5250 – Alcohol, Tobacco, and Controlled Substances

Trustees provided preliminary approval to proposed revisions to Board Policy 5250, regarding alcohol, tobacco, and controlled substances, and student prevention and intervention. Revisions include:

  • Revised language on physical and mental health implications caused by the use of alcohol, tobacco, and controlled substances.
  • Updated language on the controlled substances list to include opioids/fentanyl

Trustees Discussed the Scope and Schedule of the Zoning Advisory Committee and Requested the Superintendent Return to the Board with an Amendment to Board Policy 7105

Trustees received a presentation on the history, workload, scope, and schedule of the Zoning Advisory Committee. Trustees then approved a request that the Superintendent return to the Board with an amendment to Board Policy 7105 requiring that the Zoning Advisory Committee consider any revision to school attendance zones two years prior to the proposed revision going into effect. Highlights of the presentation and discussion included:

  • Praise for the facilities modernization plan working, resulting in zoning complications
  • The board has voted to bring the item back for further discussion with newly proposed language
